Hilary obtained her PhD in History from University College London, where her dissertation focused on the first generation of women doctors to qualify in Britain and pursue medical work overseas in Protestant missions. She has worked closely with Professor Anna Greenwood for several years, including a collaboration on a 2016/17 Wellcome Seed Award researching the early international history of Boots the Chemists. She has published on women working in Empire and histories of pharmacy.
